Daily Changes

This week I hit the one month mark after surgery.  As I am here having my Sunday morning coffee, I started to think about what is different now about my day to day from before I started this journey.

  • I drink tons of water.  I go out of my way to drink as much of it as possible.  Since my surgery, many people have commented that my skin looks so clear (was it not clear before??).
  • I am more excited to get dressed in the morning.  Though I've only lost 27 lbs, my clothes are fitting much differently.  I am able to fit into clothing that I haven't worn in ages.  I am excited to get cute for the day.
  • I think about exercise differently.  I don't dread it as much (yes I said "as much").  I still could use to exercise more.  I try to keep myself motivated, and some days are better than others, but this is still something I struggle with getting in.
  • I no longer snack.  I eat at meal times only.  I don't do it consciously so much.  I'm just aware of my eating.  I keep track of every single item of food that enters my mouth.  This would have seemed crazy to me prior to starting this process, but I know that I HAVE to keep track of things to keep myself accountable.  Who am I being accountable to?  ME!  (and my scale).  If I lie, I am only lying to myself.  The scale doesn't lie to me (though sometimes I wish it would).
  • Tracking my every move is easy with the help of my new favorite app for my phone, coupled with their website is www.myfitnesspal.com  This is a terrific site that allows you to track your food intake, water intake, exercise, weight and measurements.  The app is great because it lets you know what kind of weight loss (or gain) you can expect if you continue to eat as  you did for that day.
  • I look at all labels.  I track my calories, protein, fat and sugar.  Those are the 4 components that I look at on every single label.  I stay between 1000-1200 calories and try to optimize protein intake and get in at least 60 grams of protein.  I'm not as focused on the fat and sugar, but I do take note of it and try to make better choices.
These are just a few of the changes in my daily life.  I'm sure there are more that I'm not thinking of immediately, but I do feel like my life is shifting in ways other than just getting smaller.  In such a short time I already feel like a new and improved woman.  Have you made any changes that you want to share?
